Wardrobe Wednesday: A Neighborhood Cheerleader for My Yoga Outfits

Lavender, longline, and a little crinkle confidence—heading to class with a smile

Sometimes your favorite yoga look isn’t just about how you feel in it—it’s about how it makes the people around you smile.

There’s a yoga mom in my neighborhood who’s basically become my unofficial cheerleader. We’ve crossed paths three times now while I’ve been heading to class—always in leggings or shorts, always padded underneath.

First time:
I was wearing my black leggings, my mat slung over my shoulder. She came by in her own leggings, pushing a stroller, and smiled:
“Going to yoga?”
“Yes!”
“Have fun—you look great!”

It was such a simple exchange, but it carried me all the way through class.

Second time:
I had stepped things up—mint short shorts, a thick diaper, and pastel plastic baby pants underneath. It was a bold choice for me, but the warm weather won out. She didn’t miss a beat:
“Love the shorts! Have fun at yoga!”
And just like that, I left grinning.

Third time:
Today, I was in my 7/8 lavender leggings—snug, soft, and securely padded. She spotted me again:
“Another day of yoga! I’m enjoying seeing what you’re going to wear day to day.” I laughed and told her, “Thank you! You’ll have to join me sometime

”Why I love this:

  • It reminds me that people do notice—but often in the most positive way.

  • It proves you can be bold, padded, and stylish without hiding.

  • It shows how one or two supportive people can make you feel so welcome in your own skin.

Today’s Wardrobe Breakdown

  • Thick diaper + plastic baby pants (always my base)

  • Lavender hoodie over a longline activewear top (cozy & hides bulk if I want it to)

  • Black high-rise leggings (smooths everything and pairs with anything)

  • Yoga mat + tote bag (essentials for every class)

Moments like these remind me of something important:
People notice—but not in the way I used to fear.

When I first started practicing yoga in diapers and plastic pants, I worried about being stared at, whispered about, or judged. Instead, I’ve found so many quiet encouragers—people who see me showing up, wearing what makes me feel confident, and simply cheer me on.

She doesn’t know my whole story. She doesn’t know exactly what’s under the leggings or the shorts. But she sees me. She sees a neighbor heading to yoga, in whatever outfit I’ve chosen that day, and she chooses to send me off with a smile.

And honestly? That’s enough.

What I hope you take from this:
Sometimes the people around you will surprise you. They may not know every detail, but they can still see your effort, your joy, and your courage. And if you’re lucky, you might even find a cheerleader in your own neighborhood—one who’s excited to see what you’re wearing next.
