Lululemon The (Big) Mat – Honest Review by Alice in Yoga Pants
If you love a little extra space to stretch, twist, and crinkle through your flows, The (Big) Mat by Lululemon definitely delivers. At a generous 29" x 84" (74 cm x 213 cm), it's noticeably longer than standard mats, which means no more awkwardly readjusting during downward dog or yoga nidra. That extra room? Absolutely dreamy.
What I Love:
-
Room to move – Finally, a mat that matches my full-body practice. It's perfect for taller yogis or anyone who just wants a little breathing room.
-
Grip galore – The polyurethane top layer is wonderfully grippy, even during sweaty flows. No towel needed!
-
Cushiony comfort – With a 5 mm (0.19") thickness, it feels stable but soft, especially for knees and hips.
-
Reversible design – A fun touch if you like a little variety.
-
Antimicrobial protection – Built-in defense against mold and mildew helps keep things fresh longer.
Heads Up:
-
The smell – Right out of the box, this mat had a strong burnt rubber scent (likely due to the natural rubber and latex materials). It was… not cute. But after some airing out and patience, the smell has started to fade. Still, be prepared.
-
It’s heavy – Weighing in at 3.75 kg (8.25 lbs), this is not a mat you’ll want to tote around town. It’s best for home or studio use where it can stay put.
Final Thoughts:
Despite the initial odor and weight, The (Big) Mat feels like a luxurious, grounded base for my practice. It’s perfect for longer sessions, floor work, and anything that demands space. I wouldn’t travel with it, but for studio or home? It's a keeper. Just give it a few days to breathe—like we all need sometimes.
